It’s Like a 4 Week Sleepover!
Hi we’re Kelsey and Camryn and we live in Syosset, New York. We are sisters that are two years apart (Kelsey is 15, and Camryn is 13). We live with our two brothers, parents and our dog. When we’re not at camp, we enjoy hanging out with our friends and playing sports. We share the same favorite color, which is blue!
I’m 15 yrs old and currently I’m a Sophomore in High School. I ended up at camp in a crazy way… My parents told me about a bunch of different camps and told me to look into a few of them. As soon as I read about Timber Lake West, I knew it was the one for me. When my mom asked me why I picked West, I told her it was because it had a really cool name (Crazy, right?) She laughed, but it was without a doubt the best decision I ever made.
This summer will be my 7th summer and my last year as a camper. Even though I can’t have the same camp experience, I still plan on returning to West year after year… (I am planning on being the next camp director, so watch out Jenn, Justin and Cassie!). Timber Lake West has made me extremely outgoing, and has changed me for the better. My camp friends, counselors and the people who surround me at West have taught me the true meaning of friendship and how to find the best in the worst. These people have really become my second family. Timber Lake West has left an imprint on my heart that will last forever and it has made me the person I am today.
Nickname: Cammy or Cam
I’m Camryn and I’m currently in my last year of middle school. I always told my parents that I would never go to camp, and that I would never leave home for that long. During my sister’s first summer, I went up to camp on Visiting Day. After seeing how much fun she was having and meeting all the great people there, I asked my parents if they could just leave me there for the rest of the session! I instantly knew that Timber Lake West was were I belonged.
This summer will be my 6th summer as a camper and I never plan on leaving. The best thing about camp is just spending time with the people there. As soon as I stepped off the bus, everyone was so welcoming and in only 4 short weeks, these strangers turned into family. Camp has left such a positive impact on my life and I truly couldn’t picture my summer anywhere else. In camp I learned the true meaning of “STARFISH” and how to gain self-confidence. I have had so many crazy, amazing memories at camp that could never be forgotten. One of the best feelings in the world is waking up surrounded by your best friends; it’s like a giant 4-week sleepover. The strong bonds I have formed with them makes it seem like we never leave each other at the end of the summer.
