Catching-Up with Soccer Tom
Hi, Iâm Tom, or better known as âSoccer Tomâ at camp. Iâm 25 years old, from South England, and this will be my 6th summer at Timber Lake West. I currently live in London, England, and cannot wait to get back into the thick of things this summer!
Since 2007, I have been the campâs Soccer Specialist, Athletic & Soccer Director, and will have the great pleasure of being the Head Counselor for Lower Camp Boys this summer!
I first started at TLW when I was a first year at University and little did I know that TLW would become such a massive part of my life and help shape the person I am today!
While not at camp, I am working towards completing my degree in Exercise Physiology. I live in London with the former Middle Camp girlâs Head Counselor, Brigid Dugan, and of course I love everything about Soccer! I have also been working for an International camping agency with fellow Brits that want to work at camps just like TLW. So as you can see, camp is a big part of my life.
I have so many fond memories from my time at West. From meeting my first ever Cadet campers back in summer 07, to winning Color War as General (GO RED VIDEO GAMES, August 08â), to watching campers grow into adults, to making friends from all corners of the World. But my favorite memory of all happens every year; seeing the camperâs reactions when you tell them you will be back next year. Knowing that you have had enough of an impact on them that they are excited to see you again. (And if truth be told, they too have always made an impact on me.)
My advice to anyone thinking about going to West as a camper, or even applying as a staff member? JUST. DO. IT. It is that simple. It will be the best decision of your life. The friendships, memories and experiences you will gain during just one summer at TLW will stay with you for the rest of your life.
I cannot wait to get back to camp and see all of the returning and new staff and campers! Only 19 days until 1st session and 48 days until 2nd session!
