With Turkey Day only a few days away, we are so very thankful that you and your family are a part of the TLW Family. If you think about it, family reunions at Thanksgiving are very similar to our own camp reunions! It’s a way to come together and reconnect – to keep in touch and maintain that bond that we have with each other. We get to see old friends and meet new ones while spending quality time over food and fun activities, catching up on the latest news since we last saw each other!
Keep an eye out in the coming months for information about our next reunion which will be sometime in the Spring of 2012. We can’t wait to see you on that special “holiday”!
This past weekend we took our Collegiate and Teen campers back up to camp for one last visit in 2011. We had a great time reminiscing about this past summer and all the fun we had. We were grateful the weather predictions were wrong! Although a rainy weekend seemed inevitable based on the forecast, the sun was shining in Roscoe all weekend long!
The weekend began with our campers boarding the charter buses from Long Island and New Jersey; everyone was so excited to be with their best camp friends one last time before winter approaches. Indian Summer would not be complete without a bonfire and some sticky, messy, delicious s’mores! On Sunday we returned some, tired but very happy campers to their parents who were waiting to greet them.
Check out the photos below of our Indian Summer 2011 weekend!
Visiting Day for our 2nd Session campers was fantastic! Although we had a little bit of rain which found us after lunch time, it didn’t dampen our spirits one bit! It was clear to see that our campers were in their glory and just loved showing everyone around their summer home. The day was wonderful and we look forward to the excitement in the days to come before finishing out summer 2011 with our 2nd Session campers!!!
1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – WE WANT COLOR WAR!!!!!! Color War for 1st session was filled with excitement and lots of energy from both the White Rio & Red Hong Kong teams. Break-out (The official commencement of Color War) is always in the back of our camper’s mind as days of “Fake-outs” (fake break-outs!) take place just to keep them on their toes!
The official break-out happened, and boy our campers were surprised! Team lists dropped from the sky and campers prepared to compete against one another. Stakes were high in events like Tug-o-War, blind-folded canoe race, egg toss and everyone’s favorite – an Apache Relay. Sing Night came to a conclusion as the teams sang their alma maters (videos below!) and when all the points were tallied, White came out on top with only an 8.7 point difference!
We had such a fantastic 1st session with our campers! We can’t believe how quickly time flew by! We look forward to seeing all of our 1st Session campers again next summer
As we like to say: Timber Lake West campers get the full camp experience in just half the time! Color War is certainly no exception. See for yourself in the below videos and pictures! (Wonder how 2nd Session Color War will turn out… Hummmm…..)
On a scale of 1-10, our 1st session Visiting Day was a 12! We could not have ordered better weather if we tried! By 8am, the first cars were lined up on the road outside of camp waiting anxiously to see their children. At 9:30am the parents entered in to camp to park their cars and waited at the top of the hill until the official start of Visiting Day at 10am.
As the minutes ticked by, the anticipation and excitement level rose. Everyone was excited! Visiting Day is somewhat unstructured so that families get to spend quality time with their child and are able to meet their child’s counselors, friends and to see the things they enjoy doing most at camp. Some campers drive a go-cart, climb the climbing wall, zip down the zip line, or water ski, while others go swimming, boating or play tennis. All where their families are able to participate with them in their favorite activities. Some families choose to go off the property while others join us for either the outside bar-b-que lunch or lunch inside the dining hall – all complete with make your own sundaes!
Everyone was very happy with the day and especially with our top-notch staff. Rave reviews about the day were echoed as 1st Session Visiting Day came to a close… And we look forward to an equally successful Visiting Day for our 2nd Session campers and their families next month!
With more than 25 prospective WEST campers joining us for a day of fun, friendship and excitement, we had a fantastic day with our Rookies this past Sunday!
Rookie Day is a one day program where we invite prospective campers to participate with other prospective and current campers in a typical day at camp. Parents start the day with their children. Then, as the children go off with their counselors and new friends for a power packed day of activities, parents get a complete tour of Camp, get to meet our staff and speak with the Directors Jenn, Justin & Cassie. After that, it’s time for Parents to have some fun! Enjoy local sites, engage in some of the area’s activities and have lunch in town on us! They return later in the afternoon to pick up their “camper”, who we hope will be our future Timber Lake West Camper!
We have another Rookie Day right around the corner on Saturday, July 30th – Give us a call at 845-439-4440 to register. Join us for a day full of fun and see what Timber Lake West is all about!
We woke up to the sound of pouring rain this past Saturday – the day of our New Camper Open House! But as it is in camp, we go rain or shine!
We promptly sent out an email to the parents of all of our New Campers letting them know we were still on. The rain subsided close to the start of the Open House and our New Campers and their Parents started streaming down our hill into camp. Mother Nature must have been looking out for us, as it was only misting just a bit. The New Campers and their families took a tour of camp and learned what Opening Day will be like. The Directors, Justin, Cassie and Jenn met with the parents to give them some last minute tips and suggestions for helping make the transition to Camp a smooth one, while the Leadership Team took the New Campers to play some games.
We didn’t let a little damp weather slow us down! We all had a great time! Everyone was happy and looking forward to Camp. It had us wishing June 26th was here already and Camp could start now!
This past weekend, the TLC Family of Camps took part in an awesome charity event at Columbia University - Camp Games for a Cause! Over 30 different camps in the tri-state area, represented by their camp staff, camp alumni and camp families participated in friendly competition while raising money for a wonderful cause - SCOPE. In this, it’s inaugural year, Camp Games for a Cause raised over $34,000 for SCOPE, helping to send under-privileged inner-city kids to summer camp!
We had about 25 young alumni & staff members from the TLC family show up to compete in some favorite camp games such as gaga, volleyball, dodgeball, and a dance competition where Ross Lazerowitz from Timber Lake posed as Justin Beiber! The day finished with a perennial camp favorite (and mass chaos!) – an Apache relay! Although there was a valiant effort by all, the TLC Family of Camps team came in 2nd place, but that just means that next year we will be going for the gold!
With 53 days until First Session and 83 days until Second Session, we gathered our new and returning Campers entering 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade for a morning of Big Fun, at THE ROCK, in Nanuet last weekend!
The campers and staff all had a fantastic time! What could be bad? We grouped the campers by gender and session and had a round robin of activities for them: kickball, dodgeball, soccer, basketball and playtime on the large inflatable slides. We finished the morning, like we do with any great camp event, with pizza and snacks. Gatherings like these help campers make and keep their camp friends year-round, while building their self confidence, self esteem and resilience. While watching our new and returning campers walk off with their arms around one another, we felt good accomplishing our mission. (It also made us feel like we cannot wait for camp to start!!! )
Our Collegiate and Teen campers went back up Burnt Hill Road for one last weekend at camp for our Indian Summer Weekend. The campers boarded the buses bright and early on Long Island and in New Jersey and were greeted in camp by one of our largest staff to volunteer for Indian Summer, ever! (more…)
